My Story

I am a mum of three wild and gorgeous kiddos and live in beautiful rural Aargau. I am originally from the UK and followed my heart to Switzerland in 2009. I love to travel and explore new places, although I've swapped a backpack for a roof box these days! In a rare quiet moment l love to create, especially writing, cooking and sewing. I am often found reading or listening to an audio book. I love Swiss mountains and Swiss chocolate, but I miss Marmite and Fish & Chips from home! I am proudly Swiss and British and speak Swiss German with my own particular flair!

I have done all sorts of weird and wonderful jobs in my life from baker to prison administrator, historian, tour guide and teacher.  But I was compelled to change everything and to become a doula after the birth of my own children.

As is the case for most first time mums I was completely unprepared for the reality of life with a baby (or in my case babies!). I went from a busy international working environment in the city to home alone in a small village. I knew few people in my community and struggled to communicate. As a mother far from home I missed the support of female family and friends. I was lonely, isolated and overwhelmed. Motherhood was far less enjoyable than I expected.

My midwife, transformed my experience of motherhood by introducing me to other new mothers in my community. Her act of "village" building for me as a mother changed everything.

By the time my son was born I had a small community of support. I could share with other mothers going through the same thing. I had people to ask for help and I had a better idea of what I needed postpartum. It was still hard, of course it was, having a baby and raising children is hard! But preparation, support and allowing yourself time to rest and retreat can transform your experience of early motherhood.

A chance meeting with a fellow expat mother and I learnt about Doulas. Oh I wish I had known about Doulas when my kids were born!

So started my journey as a Birth and Postpartum Doula. I first trained as a Postpartum Doula with Younique Postnatal in the UK and then as a Birth Doula with the Doula Ausbildung Schweiz. As my understanding of a mother's needs postpartum deepened, I completed some more specific training with Jojo Hogan of Slow Postpartum. My Postpartum Sanctuary package encapsulates this philosophy in encouraging mothers to embrace the idea or retreat and slow living for a while once baby is born. I continue to expand and refresh my knowledge of postpartum care practices from around the world such as Rebozo massage, aromatherapy and the principals of traditional Chinese Medicine.

I have been supporting parents in the birthing room, postpartum in their home and in various groups for several years now. Helping them to slow down and enjoy the moment as they bond with their new baby and grow as a family. As a Mother Circle Guide I have continued to support mothers on their journey as they build their tribe and share their experiences of motherhood.

Wherever you are on your pregnancy or parenting journey, I am looking forward to working with you too.
